While any potential big-name coming to a Philadelphia team is exciting to me, I’m really not sure that adding Elton Brand to the Sixers is gonna do a whole, whole lot. The Eastern Conference is becoming quite competitive, but the Sixers are probably on the back curve of that. Up front are, of course, Boston and Detroit. Throw in Orlando and Cleveland, and that pretty much relegates the Sixers to a bottom seed in the playoffs already. Not to mention that it’s highly unlikely that Washington and Miami will be as bad as they were this year. Nah. It’s nice to add a big name to the roster, but I’m not sure that adding Elton Brand actually moves the Sixers any closer to a ring. This certainly doesn’t seem to make them automatics for the conference finals.

Wow, Tee-dot don’t even get a mention?! Thass cold, brah (uh-oh, here come the igloo jokes).
Brand makes them a true playa for real. When they finally started putting TYoung in the lineup for real minutes round about Feb, they started running up some good wins. Now they have Brand in the mix? Shoooo, if he stays upright, they’re gonna be trouble in the playoffs for sure.
Raps — who unlike the Heat were actually IN the playoffs last year — added Jermaine O’Neal, some necessary scoring beef. If he can stay healthy, best believe the Raps are in it again and will be aggravating to deal wit.
The old elite guard, Detroit, Cleveland and Boston, so far are not doing too much to their roster but ageing it. They can be had. And don’t rule out Indiana making trouble, too.
The only guys we can safely bet will be on the outside lookin in will be the slyly improving Knicks.
Washington had a bad season? IIRC, they were a 6 seed in the playoffs even with Agent Zero missing most of the year. With a healthy Arenas, the Wizards are a legit contender for the Eastern Conference title.
I agree with Folly… obtaining Brand makes the Sixers into a playoff-quality team. You have to like their frontcourt now — in the playoffs, teams with the best frontcourts tend to be the most successful. There isn’t an Eastern Conference team so dominant that they’re locks to survive to the conference finals, let alone the championship round. If the Sixers develop chemistry, they’ve got as much chance as anyone.
As a Clipper fan, I am crying today. I have an autographed plaque of his award as Western Conference Player of the Week back in the 2006-07 season hanging in my workout room.
With Brand, we were an up and coming playoff team. Assuming he comes all the way back from his achilles injury, he will thrive in Philly. I think he has the perfect temperment for his new coach, and Andre Miller and EB played well together during a season with the Clips.
Minus Brand and Maggette, Plus Baron Davis. Clippers better make some moves now, or they are in store for another 50 loss season two years after winning 48.
With Delambert, he gives the Howard`s and the Ben Wallace`s one more big to watch. Shrewd move- hope it pays off.
I’m feeling better, now that we picked up Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Camby. Al Thornton may well become the next household name in the NBA. He had a great second half of his rookie year, and stands to be a go-to player for the Clips in 08-09. I’m predicting 22 ppg.
