On first blush, I’m gonna go with Bruce Wayne. I guess it’s all about the quality of opponent he’s defeated. But then, with Batman being one of DC’s premier heroes, he would have a much more impressive record than Iron Man, who, co-founder of the Avengers and all that, has never seemed to be much more than a second-tier name in the Marvel Universe.

Aside from that, I think they’re actually fairly evenly matched, and I couldn’t rule out an Iron Man win. I just wouldn’t expect it.

  1. I don’t Ironman has the motivation. I don’t know his history, but I have the feeling that he’s a hero because he CAN, not because he’s particularly compelled to. I think of him more like The Flash, he just thinks it’s cool to have powers, might as well use it for good. Batman on the other hand is deeply invested in the struggle for good over evil and overcompensates in an intellectually brooding way. Now Stark is clever as all get out, but in the fight he’s all technique. I think somewhere, Bruce Wayne has developed a true killer instinct.

  2. i think i agree that batman has a killer instinct that iron man just doesn’t have. maybe. i was never really into iron man like that, so i don’t know too much about him, except that he’s had trouble holding his likka. that’s partially why i liked the movie, because i really was being introduced to a new character. having said that, i think that batman’s killer instinct would probably allow him to overcome iron man’s technological advantage. but with more prep time, the advantage actually switches to stark, i think.

  3. I used to buy the occasional Iron Man (or follow a story line for a spell). I agree with Cobb’s take. Batty’s, uh, “invested,” shall we say? Man-to-man, one-on-one, no suits or trick belts, just two men in speedos settlin beef (uhhh, say what?) Bruce wins that pretty easy. Equal prep time and usual attire? Stark.

  4. Gotta give the nod to the armored cat. As a tween though, I always thought a rumble betwixt mortals Captain America and Batman would’ve been hype. Even in that one, I leaned Marvel.

  5. First off let me say that DC comics are for pussies, punk ass bitches who don’t know Jack about comics. :-) Back in the 60s and 70s all the best artists, inkers and writers split from DC and went to work for Stan Lee over at Marvel. So from an artistic standpoint there really is no comparison between DC and Marvel comics from the late 1960s to the early 1990s.

Of course I’m biased being an old Marvel comic collector from way back. I started when I was five years old, and only completed my collection in 2004 through the marvel of online auctions. So I’m not exactly unbiased.

Re: Ironman specifically otherwise known as “The Golden Avenger” there can really be no comparison with Batman, since in the Marvel world Ironman is one of the most powerful superheroes, second only to Thor, the Norse thunder God, within the supergroup The Avengers. Many many times Iron Man has gone toe to toe with the Incredible Hulk, a character who has the strength to lift an aircraft carrier and toss it like a toy.

So without a great deal of technological support to back him up, Batman’s best efforts would be shrugged off by Ironman the same way a water buffalo shrugs off a fly. A more apt match up would be between Ironman and Superman. Now there I would give Superman the advantage, but Tony Stark is a smart guy, who as Ironman thinks his way around problems, and defeats his enemy oftentimes by being better prepared. So I see Tony designing a kryptonite option into his repulser beams, and that would be all she wrote for Superman. :-)

Now, admittedly I don’t read comics or keep up with the comic world any longer, but I have on occasion perused modern Ironman comics, and they are pretty impressive artistically, as well as from a technology standpoint. So I think the modern Ironman could basically just stand there unmoved while Batman did his worst, and then flicked the bat off with his finger, like a flea.

  6. Yeah but,Surely Batman would pull a anti energy field gadget that would disable ironman from his utility belt.
Or don that suit he wore to fight superman that one time.
