Recognize!

Posted in Everwhatever on March 1st, 2008

I went to the National Portrait Gallery to see the Recognize exhibit today. It was pretty much what I would’ve expected from a hip-hop exhibit at the Smithsonian, with a few graffiti pieces, some video, and some traditional portraits. All of it was good, but the paintings by Kehinde Wiley were particularly stunning. Especially the painting of Big Daddy Kane. First of all, the physical size is imposing — it’s about 8′ X 6′. But it’s KANE. It’s SO Kane. And really, the portraits of LL and Ice-T are, I think, based on classic portraits, but that Kane…pssshhhh. The question I find myself asking is whether the picture seemed more live to me because Kane as an MC is more live.

Willy-Nilly Around The Internet

I got a 71 on the WWF Action Figure quiz. I was kinda disappointed, because I normally expect myself to do better on any test, but given that I didn’t have any of the action figures when was a young’n, it’s probably not so bad.

The Eagles got Asante Samuel. For some reason, I’m not terribly impressed. I think I’d rather that they’d gotten Moss. Yeah, they need defensive help, and maybe with Donovan being closer to healthy, that might relieve some of the offensive challenges, BUT (and this is a sofa) Donovan ain’t what he was. He can’t carry an offense anymore. He needs a stud receiver. Maybe they know somethin I don’t. Well, I know they know somethin I don’t, but we’ll hafta see what happens going forward.
