As Shay reminds us, June is Black music month. Well, over here, every month is Black music month…and f’real-f’real, if it’s American music, then it’s all Black music in the first place. Almost all. I’m not sure C&W is a descendant of Gospel or the Blues (but if it’s not, it’s a close cousin).

  1. C&W definitely comes from the blues, and cowpunk has some of that gospel flavor mixed in. No question. Some of that stuff (Jason & the Scorchers, if you can find them) verges on Christian music in its religious fervor.
