Read full description of the books Hilda - Lycadea:

Sometimes when I am reading this series, I honestly have to go back and re-read a couple of pages because I feel like I have missed something important. I had that feeling several times in this current book of “Hilda the Wicked Witch” series. I am amazed at some of the adventures this couple manages to go on, which I appreciate, but (aside from #5 in the series,) this book again does not match up to the first two outstanding book in the series.

The whole series is starting to feel like a worn out, holey shoe, where it feels comfortable, but the sole needs replaced. I know I am in a minority on this though, judging by the other comments. I guess it’s maybe all the other countless books/series I’ve read that this one just doesn’t ring my bell for me anymore.

This particular book felt very political/preachy in it’s technology rant. Reading this book on an e-reader maybe didn’t give it any brownie points. Then, again…maybe each book in the series has had a message and I’ve only noticed it this time around. It felt that way to me anyway. Maybe the other thing is that the two cats appearance from back two books is still left unexplained, and while their was one hint of maybe an answer coming of what really happened to Zelda, we again didn’t get any.

And maybe that’s another thing that is starting to sour me on this series: I never have gotten any resolve with characters that suddenly appear, no explanation given, or characters that end and never resurface. It gives the whole series the feeling of a TV series, and that’s fine, but not what I really look forward to in reading serial books. I know that probably doesn’t make for very exciting reading, but that’s just me.

As it is, I do like the characters introduced with this series. The author does a good job fleshing all the new characters out; there always seems to be one that gets taken under the wing of Hilda (at least since Zelda,) but at the end, I am left sad, knowing I will probably never hear from those characters again.

The length of the book was a bit longish, there were some parts that could have been removed and it would have been all right, but I understand why those parts were left in. It didn’t read very fast; my mind wandered at points; but overall, a decently put together story. These stories always end the same way: they just end. I suppose that’s good for anyone who wants to have a story be a stand alone, but I do feel like you need to read the first three books in the series to understand the main characters involved, after that, I think you could reasonably read the book out of order without too much concern. This book, does not seem to introduce any new long term characters. (Which is like the previous two book.)

Three stars.

Ebook Hilda - Lycadea read Online! Paul Kater was born in the Netherlands in 1960. He quickly developed a feel for languages but did not pursue a career in those as his native language, Dutch, did not offer many options in that time.

After learning far too much about computers he started to make a living with them. During all that time he always wrote short stories, little things to entertain family and friends and also himself with.

Since 2003 he's been writing more seriously, first posting his scribblings on an amateur writer's mailing list, and then publishing shorter and longer stories on the internet. Due to the international character of the Internet, all Paul's stories so far are written in English. The best known books he wrote are the Hilda the Wicked Witch series.

Paul currently lives in Cuijk, in the Netherlands, with his books and the many characters he's developed in the past years, who claim he is a figment of their imagination.
